How to install the free version of Galaxy - Milky Way?

Important notes:
Installation steps
If you feel confident with a computer, then p.p.1-2 can skip.
  1. Download the archive with video Galaxy installation and first launch instructions.
  2. Unzip the archive and watch the installation and launch video.
  3. Download and unzip the installation file. By default, Galaxy is placed in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Galaxy" folder (hereinafter it will be referred to as the% Galaxy% folder). You can change the installation path, i.e. put in another folder other than "C:\Program Files (x86)\",but at the same time, the final folder where Galaxy is installed must have the exact name - Galaxy. You cannot change the name of this folder.
  4. After installation, find the icon on the desktop and follow the steps to run the program as an administrator:
    • right-click on the Galaxy icon - call properties;
    • Compatibility tab - "Change settings for all users";
    • check the box "Run this program as administrator" and double-click OK.
  5. Add the folder where Galaxy is installed to the antivirus exceptions, since sometimes antiviruses perceive program protection from hacking as suspicious code or, even worse, as a virus (trojan), and delete the program from the folder and quarantine it. Therefore, adding a folder to antivirus exceptions is vital for the operation of Galaxy programs. Usually, this item on adding to exclusions is located in the settings section of the antivirus program, but you can search the Internet for the phrase "how to add a folder to antivirus exceptions" and add the phrase with the name of your antivirus.
  6. If, when you start PreView, when you click on the "Watch Video" button, you cannot view the fragment, download and install the K-Lite video codec.
  7. That's it. Installation is complete and you can use the Galaxy programs.
Windows 10 Feature
Since Galaxy programs work in full-screen mode, on some computers running the Windows 10 operating system, a situation may arise when the taskbar (the panel at the bottom of the screen on which the running programs are displayed) overlaps the bottom of the program. In such cases, you should do one of two methods: If you have questions or any difficulties, please contact me. I will be happy to help.

How many PCs can I install the purchased software on?

  1. Each program can be installed on one computer only.
  2. If you purchase a number of different programs so you can install them either on the same computer or on other one, at your discretion, as each program can work both independently and in combination.
  3. When purchasing several identical programs, of course, please, install them on different computers, or meaningless.
Since the life cycle of programs are often more than the computer life cycle, the computers are updated (install new components), or change to new ones. The user is entitled to require the seller to transfer the previously purchased software. This is a worldwide practice for serious programs and vendors. Galaxy is no exception. Therefore, if you change the configuration of your device, please, contact for re-generation of the keys to the programs purchased earlier.

How to get data from Locator to SkyWorker?

Locator supports a number of exchange formats and allows you to transfer data via the clipboard, not only to SkyWorker.
However, data transmission will be the same type of action:
  1. You should run Locator and SkyWorker.
  2. Please, do a search for a city item in Locator, for example, a quick search mode by typing a few letters of the name specifying the region and country, if necessary.
  3. Enter the required date-time. The Locator has a wonderful button: 'Check the alternative offsets', which will allow to verify the correctness of time offset, comparing data from multiple tables. If the different sources give different corrections, the program will inform about it.
  4. Click 'Copy data to clipboard' and select 'Universal format'. In this case, the keyboard layout should be in Russian, otherwise you can get 'mojibake' instead of city item. By the way, if you use only one program, for example, SkyWorker, you can set the format of the clipboard as Universal format in Presetter settings - Basic settings. In this case, you do not need to select it from the menu by clicking 'Copy data' button.
  5. Go to SkyWorker. Button to get data from Locator becomes available. Click it and the data from the clipboard will be transferred into the program. Inactive button to get data from Locator means that you do not transfer data from the program or transfer, but select the wrong format.

Asteroids does not show on the chart. What should I do

To calculate the position of the asteroid in the program Asteroids apply Swiss Ephemeris files. The installation package files are available only for the first thousand asteroids (numbered 1000). To calculate and display the position of the other asteroids,you must download and install the missing ephemeris file.
Each ephemeris file allows you to calculate the position of the asteroid. For example, to calculate the position of the asteroid number 3729, needs se03729s.se1 file, and for the asteroid number 127319 - se127319s.se1. For ease of use, asteroids ephemeris files are located in separate folders for each 1000 files. So for the first thousand ast0 used folder, for the second - ast1 etc. Thus, if you want to calculate the position of the asteroid with numbers from 6300 to 7100, you will need to install and ast6 ast7 folder. These folders should be created in the folder %Galaxy%\SwisEph, where %Galaxy%\ points to the folder where you installed the program Galaxy (by default - it is "c:\Program Files (x86)\Galaxy").
What needs to be done to set the ephemeris files on your computer? Let us examine the two options. Back to top

How to correctly create a natal chart and events and then link them?

I will try to explain my particular example. There are three natal chart - father, mother and child. Clearly, if we create the birth of a child as an event, contact the three charts (natal moms, dads and natal birth event). But it is also necessary to rectify the child's birth, that is, to work with the child's natal chart.
It is not difficult. Just should make some gestures, as in the Galaxy can only associate natal chart and events, you are right, not a natal chart natal. This restriction is purely software, rather than physical. I did not allow connecting any charts, so as not to confuse the astrologers. In addition, start a two chart in the form of events and natal birth to a child - it is a bad option, since it will be two different charts. Therefore it is necessary to do so: Back to top

It is impossible to change the chart. What am I doing wrong?

Working with the list of astrological instruments (hereinafter - the instrument) is quite simple. All of these tools are for exouter charts. Those. When enabled display any two charts or outer. Choosing some tool in the list, you apply it to the outer chart. On the chart below.

Let's see exactly more features to work with a list of charts (events).

The first. To change the selected chart (events), it should be available for modification. Those. The chart protection (lock must be opened and white) must be removed. If the lock is closed, and the red, chart is protected from changes. On the chart wheel, the item to show the date, time chart for the chart available to change, always white. This is the first.

The second. If the protection is removed, you can safely change the time of the chart by any means:
The third. When you work with a list of charts, there are 2 fundamental options of work, depending on the number of charts in the list:
  1. In the chart list only one chart. There are no options in the list is selected it is this chart. It is available to change the date-time. It's simple.
  2. more than one chart in the list. Here, too, everything is simple, the basic concepts are. In the first place you have natal and horary chart. This chart, the first in the list. It is the base. Those. It takes a place the main, main chart. It becomes special. Regardless of the index chart in the list (it does not matter whether the selected 1-, 2-, or N chart), the chart will always internal. It will be visible when you select the option "internal chart" or "Both charts". Therefore, the pointer to the chart list makes no sense to put on the first chart. This index ALWAYS must stand on any chart, but the first. It is fundamentally. If you have learned this rule, it will continue to be very simple. Remember that the index charts in the list should not be on the first chart as the first chart will always be available. Now consider the process of changing the time chart: -if you want to change the base chart, it does not matter for how the chart (except the first) is a pointer. The main thing is that he should not be on the first chart. Clicking on the wheel inside of the chart, and if the date time element is highlighted in white (the chart is available for change), change it while you need any manner described above; -if you want to change the outer chart, simply specify it in the list by clicking on the wheel outer chart and change it while you need any manner described above.
Important note. You can set the chart in the dynamics of the instrument, as well as what we want to change the chart. There are 3 options: And finally. There are more scribbling than action :). Everything is fairly trivial. Do not forget that the pointer in the chart list (ie, the selected and highlighted line in the list) should stand on the first place (ie 2-, 3-, etc.). And all you get.

It is impossible to change the representation of a retrograde object to a chart. What am I doing wrong?

In Horus I want to see a retro planet with a white "R" symbol. On the test card everything is beautiful, but nothing has changed in Horus, restart did not help...

The fact is that for all Galaxy programs there are color schemes and they are loaded at startup. So for astrological program Horus by default the color scheme"Star dust (gray)" is set and in this scheme it is indicated in the settings that the retrograde objects should be displayed in color, and not the R symbol. I already explained here on the forum to one from users, how to change the settings of the colors of the scheme. But to not look for them I give the instruction:
  1. Start PreSetter.
  2. On the left side of the list, select the "Appearance of Programs" mode and see, for your program, what theme it has. For Horus, the default setting is "Star Dust (gray)."
  3. On the left side of the list, select the "Chart Display Settings" mode.
  4. Click "Save or download settings" and select "Download settings."
  5. From the list, select "Galaxy - Star dust (gray)" and click "Load saved settings."
  6. For each plane, perform steps 7-8.
  7. Click "Open record for editing", find the item in the list - "Displaying retrograde objects on the chart" and double-click on the phrase "highlighted color" and select "Letter R ..." in the selector
  8. Click the button with an open lock to save your changes.
  9. Click "Save or download settings" and select "Save settings."
  10. In the list, select the "Galaxy - Star dust (gray)" and overwrite it.
  11. Now when you load your Horus with the color scheme "Star dust (gray)", the retrograde objects will be displayed with the symbol R.
The procedure described above may seem too abstruse, but it is not so, given that in Galaxy programs each program can have its own, individual, inherent only to her, not only color settings, button shapes, but also any colors and sizes of characters. So I recommend immediately, as long as it's fresh, adjust the programs to your taste.

How to create a list of stars for the astrological program Charts?

There was a question on the program Charts. When viewing maps, I see the ability to display fixed stars. The question is which stars are displayed in this module? First magnitude or some other principle? I did not find there the opportunity to choose by what parameters they will be displayed.

The list for the stars that are displayed in the astrological program Charts, you can do yourself. There are several options for this.

To do this, click the "Save or Load Settings" button again and select "Load selection offers" from the menu. Select the required set and press the button at the top left "Make the selected record as the current ...". Well, click the button on the right "Load saved settings."
  4. further, the actions from the simple method are repeated (see p.2 of "Simple"). Press the top menu button "Data Entry";

The names of settlements in the Locator are displayed in the form of abracadabra (incomprehensible characters). What should I do?

Most likely, in the Windows operating system, the language for programs that do not support UNICODE, or this language, when installed, is not set (or incorrectly set) incorrectly perceived by the operating system. Since the name of the regional settings icon may differ in different Windows operating systems, I will give the procedure for Windows 10 as the most new system, and you, if you have another version of Windows, look for a suitable name. For example, in Windows 10 - this is "Regional Standards", and in Windows 7 - "Language and regional standards". So what needs to be done:
  1. Open Control Panel (Windows settings);
  2. Find "Regional Standards" and open;
  3. Go to the Advanced tab;
  4. Find the element "Language of programs that do not support Unicode" and click "Change system language". Set [Your language] despite the fact that there can be [Your language] there;
  5. In Windows 10, tick "Beta version: Use UNICODE (UTF-8) ...";
  6. Click "OK" and restart the computer;
  7. After loading, repeat steps 1-4;
  8. In Windows 10, uncheck "Beta version: Use UNICODE (UTF-8) ...";
  9. Click "OK", restart the computer and check the operation of the Locator.
Note.Despite the fact that the item may already contain [Your language], you must select some other language, and then choose [Your language] again, since Windows may not update all registry settings and, as a result, for this, text resources will not be displayed correctly in Galaxy programs.

Unable to load Galaxy setup file in Windows 10 Edge browser. What should I do?

If you have an operating system Windows 10 and it only has a regular Microsoft Edge browser, then this same Microsoft decides for you what you are allowed to download from the network and what is not. In this regard, this very Edge, may prevent the installation file from being loaded. In this case, you need to temporarily disable the "smart filter" - SmartScreen, which is responsible for this in Windows Defender. And after downloading the installation file, enable it again.
How to do it: The same can be done in the Defender settings in the Windows Defender Security Center. And there, by the way, you can change the operating mode so that it does not block unrecognized files. But simply warned about them (you can always open the notification and check the file yourself). Digits do not fit in input elements of date-time, coordinates and time correction. What should I do?

Galaxy. Configuring the display of input elements By default, the settings of Galaxy programs are designed for any screen resolution starting from 1024x600 and the scale of screen fonts is 100%. If on your computer in the operating system scaling of screen fonts is set, other than 100%, and at the same time, the elements for entering date-time, coordinates, and so on will not be displayed correctly (numbers will not fit) in the input elements of date-time, coordinates, corrections, etc., you need to check and change the settings in the PreSetter program. To do this, run PreSetter from the integration shell, go to the "Main Settings", find and adjust 4 settings that begin with the words "Font Size". Typically, you should reduce the font size by 2 points.

Unable to download Galaxy updates. Writes about an error. How do I download updates?

The failure to download is not a bug of the Galaxy, but of the Windows operating system. Obviously you have something then with computer configuration or operating system environment variables. Either when updating Windows, or when installing some kind of browser, the temporary files folder turns out to be incorrectly configured and the Microsoft library used in the Galaxy boot mechanism cannot load temporary files correctly. Here is a solution that, will probably help you.

Before setting environment variables, check if there is a BoxUpd folder in the Galaxy installed folder.
The update files are downloaded to this folder. The folder is created automatically when Galaxy is installed, but there have been cases when users deleted it by mistake. If this folder does not exist, create it - BoxUpd.

Now the very instruction for restoring Windows environment variables:
  1. Check if c: \ temp folder exists. If not, create it.
  2. "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Right click and select Properties.
  3. Left (for Windows 7-8.1) or right (for Windows 10) - Advanced system settings.
  4. Advanced Tab - Environment Variables.
  5. In the "User Environment Variables for ..." list, find and remove the TEMP and TMP variables.
  6. Look for TEMP and TMP variables in the "System variables" list. If they are, then check their values and, if necessary, change to c:\temp. If they are not there, add with the value c:\temp. You may need to restart your computer.
  7. Try to update in Galaxy and write to me about the result.
If all else fails, write. As a last resort, there is also a "manual" download mode for updates.

How to disable Windows Defender (for Windows 10 and 11 users)

If an antivirus is installed on your computer, these steps are not required.
As a result of recent Windows updates, the built-in Windows Defender has become more restrictive. This is manifested in the groundless prohibition of unzipping the installation file and the Galaxy installation itself. Even though the installation file and all Galaxy programs are guaranteed to be virus-free. To temporarily disable Windows Defender after downloading the installation archive, follow these steps:
  1. in the "Start" button or settings, select the "Windows Defender Security Center" section;
  2. select "Protection against viruses and threats";
  3. there, go to the "Protection settings against viruses and other threats" section;
  4. click on the "Real-time protection" switch;
  5. after installing Galaxy, do not forget to restore the defender by turning it on.
After installing Galaxy, you need to add the Galaxy folder to exceptions so that there are no problems in the future when receiving updates. For this:
  1. in the "Start" button, "Windows Defender Security Center" section;
  2. select "Protection against viruses and threats";
  3. under the heading "Virus and threat protection settings" click the highlighted text "Manage settings";
  4. select "Add or remove exceptions";
  5. click on the plus sign in the drop-down list to select folders and specify the Galaxy folder (by default, Galaxy is placed in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Galaxy\).

Answers for exchange CALIF format

What all the fuss is about with format? if every astrological program works with its own data formats?

If you look a little forward, it becomes clear that each program, using its own set of data (chart name, date, time, location, etc.) to create a chart, uses a standard set required to create an astrological chart. And, obviously, the querent’s data are the medical secret, strictly speaking. Any astrologer has no right to disclose it. But there are many well-known data that not only astronomers, researchers, but simply inquiring minds would like to use. Here the main astrologer's work starts: find, enter and validate the data. And everyone does it for himself, his program by himself. The question arises: Why would not to create such sets in their format and convert them to the universal format which will be available to any program? There are also standards for hardware, for example, the mini- and microUSB, memory flash card formats, etc. Why not to agree to make one intermediate format and one converter, not to mold them by the number of existing programs. This is just one part of the benefits...
Back to top

Why is this new universal format so good?

The answer is simple, and it is here.
Back to top

I have data sets, and I'm ready to convert them to CALIF format. How can I do it?

There are several ways to solve this issue:
  1. Ask a question to a programmer-author of the program used. Perhaps this program already supports this format.
  2. Galaxy space programs support this format and your data can be converted to it.
  3. Send me your details and I will help you with the conversion.
